 Anesthetics

Is required for many surgical and dental purposes. General anesthesia is usually achieved by an IV injection allowing tracheal intubation for delivering oxygen and an inhalant anesthetic gas providing maximum safety. The pet’s heart rate, respiration, blood pressure and carbon dioxide levels are monitored by cardiac and respiratory machines. Other sedation protocols and local anesthetics are also used.

Diagnostics

Can involve taking blood samples for specific tests or protocols to evaluate your animal’s metabolic levels. (Ex. Kidneys and liver) Or x-rays can also be used to assess internal problems as well as the animal’s joints for arthritic changes. Occasional referrals are made for ultrasounds or other specific procedures maybe suggested.

Dentistry

A healthy mouth contributes to a healthier pet. Assessing alignment on a young pets teeth and monitoring through life stages where cleaning of tartar and removal of problem/loose teeth under a general anesthetic may be necessary.

Surgery

Many surgical procedures are performed at NVVC including spay and neuter, soft tissue, bone repair, dental and oral surgery. Those surgeries that require additional expertise can be referred.

Spay and neutering

surgical sterilization procedures that are necessary for population control and to avoid future problems for your pet. Ideally these procedures are performed as they approach sexual maturity as young animals.

Post-operative Care

Your pet is hospitalized post operatively to ensure that your pet has recovered from the effects of anaesthesia and the effects of anesthetic and that the adequate post-operative pain control is achieved.

Medical Grooms

We address those whose pet’s hair coats become severely matted resulting in skin/health problems. Some sedations are required if the animal is sore to touch and groom.

Boarding

For pets that require treatment or possible medical attention while owners go away, the NVVC does board cats and dogs.

Medications

Many pharmaceuticals are prescribed from a veterinarian’s in house pharmacy. Prescription medications to be dispensed require a veterinary/client/patient relationship and annual health examination.

Parasites

Both internal (tapeworms and round worms) and external (fleas, ticks and mange) parasites can be treated and prevented with oral, topical or injectable products that are all available from the NVVC.

Referrals

NVVC provides general health care for all pets, but when specific treatments and specialists are needed we can arrange a referral appointment to one of many referral specialists in the interior BC in orthopedics, optical eye care, diagnostic ultrasounds and much more.

Euthanasia

Is the end stage in a pet’s life where an IV injection is given to put the animal to sleep with minimal distress and pain. After the procedure, communal or private cremation is available.
